EPIGENETICS

A Healthy Lifestyle Supports Healthy Genetic Expression
So the good news is that you are in control of your genes … You can alter them on a regular basis, depending on the foods you eat, the air you breathe, and the thoughts you think. It's your environment and lifestyle that dictates your tendency to express disease, and this new realization is set to make major waves in the future of disease prevention -- including one day educating people on how to fight disease at the epigenetic level. When a disease occurs, the solution, according to epigenetic therapy, is simply to "remind" your affected cells (change its environmental instructions) of its healthy function, so they can go back to being normal cells instead of  diseased cells.
You can begin to do this on your own, long before you manifest a disease. By leading a
healthy lifestyle, with high quality nutrition, exercise, limited exposure to toxins, and a positive mental attitude, you encourage your genes to express positive, disease-fighting behaviors.
This is what preventive medicine is all about. It's not about taking any one particular nutrient as a supplement to fix one specific "part" of your biological machinery... The more people become willing to embrace this simple truth, the healthier everyone will get.
It's also worth pointing out that epigenetic effects begin before birth.
Epigenetic research from 2009 showed that rat fetuses receiving poor nutrition in the womb become genetically primed for a nutrition-poor environment. As a result of this genetic adaptation, the rats tended to be smaller. They were also at higher risk for a host of health problems throughout their lives, such as diabetes, growth retardation, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and neurodevelopmental delays. Again, while some are tempted to blame such "predispositions" on bad genes, the KEY factor is nutrition, i.e. the cellular environment.
If you are ready to address your dietary choices and you need a Nutrition Plan which will give you tips and tools for eating healthy, dealing with stress, and living a lifestyle that will support your epigenetic health, then phone today and make your appointment.
You can also turn your genes off and on with your emotions too. Many, if not most people carry emotional scars; traumas that can adversely affect health. Using techniques like energy psychology, you can go in and correct the trauma and help regulate your genetic expression. My favourite technique for this is the Emotional Freedom Technique(EFT), but there are many others........
Choose whichever one appeals to you, and if you don't sense any benefits, try another, until you find what works best for you.
Please, remember that 'You CAN Take Control of Your Health.'

POLARITY THERAPY

Other common name(s):
polarity balancing, polarity energy balancing, reiki healing ...

Scientific/medical name(s):
 none

Description:Polarity therapy is based on the idea that a person's health and well-being are determined by the natural flow of energy through the body. Polarity refers to the positive and negative charges of the body's electromagnetic energy field. Practitioners use touch, movement, and other methods to help this energy flow.

Overview:

Available scientific evidence does not support claims that polarity therapy is effective in treating cancer or any other disease. However, it is sometimes recommended by physicians as a tool for relaxation when conducted by a trained professional.

How is it promoted for use?
Polarity therapy is based on the theory that a smooth flow of energy maintains health, while disruptions in the flow caused by trauma, stress, poor nutrition, and other factors lead to energy imbalances, fatigue, and illness. There are believed to be three types of energy fields in the human body: long-line currents that run north to south on the body; transverse currents that run east-west in the body; and spiral currents that start at the navel and expand outward.

Practitioners of polarity therapy claim they can identify the sources of energy blockages and disruptions by observing symptoms such as headaches, tight shoulders and back muscles, muscle spasms, pain, abdominal discomfort, and even tumors. They also claim polarity therapy can be used to promote relaxation and range of motion, relieve tension, increase energy, and reduce pain, inflammation, and swelling. They further state that polarity therapy enhances the body's ability to fight off serious illness, including cancer.

What does it involve?
Because polarity therapy is based on the unique needs of the patient at the time, no two sessions are exactly alike. Most often, weekly sessions are suggested for six to eight weeks, although this may vary depending on the person and his or her needs. During a successful session of polarity therapy, the patient is said to reach a state of deep relaxation. A polarity therapy session lasts about an hour or more. Generally, polarity therapy is recommended for use in addition to standard medical care.

The first polarity therapy session includes detailed questions about physical and mental health, diet and exercise, health concerns, work, and more. The patient lies on a massage table while the therapist scans for imbalances and checks energy flow in the body. The polarity therapist may use a variety of techniques to balance and clear energy field paths. Some of these include twisting the torso, spinal realignment, curling toes, rocking motions, and moving the hands or crystals along the body's natural energy pathways. Some techniques are similar to those used by chiropractors (see our document, Chiropractic). Other aspects of polarity therapy may include supportive counselling, deep-breathing exercises, diet changes, hydrotherapy (see our document, Hydrotherapy), stretching, and yoga (see our document, Yoga).

What is the history behind it?
Polarity therapy was developed in the late 1940s by Randolph Stone, a chiropractor, osteopath, and naturopath. Dr. Stone studied several forms of traditional medicine practices from India and China. He taught that each person is responsible for his or her own health and that simple steps such as those involved in polarity therapy improve physical and spiritual well-being. According to the American Polarity Therapy Association, about one thousand polarity therapists are registered in the United States. Various schools and people from around the world teach polarity therapy. Some organizations have training programs to certify polarity therapists. However, these organizations are not regulated by any government agency.

What is the evidence?
Claims that polarity therapy is an effective treatment for cancer and other serious diseases have not been proven. The existence of energy field paths in the human body has also not been proven. Little clinical research has been published in peer-reviewed medical journals on polarity therapy. A very small pilot study looked at fatigue in women undergoing radiation therapy for breast cancer and found that the women who got polarity treatments reported better quality of life a few days afterward. However, no treatment was used in the comparison group, and the patients’ expectation of improvement may have affected the results. A 2007 review study that looked at research on complementary methods to help cancer-related fatigue did not find enough evidence to recommend polarity therapy for this problem.

Patients often report feeling relaxed and less tense after a polarity therapy session. Some physicians encourage patients to undergo bodywork therapies (such as polarity therapy and massage) because some make people feel better, if only for a short time. Others believe the prolonged physical contact involved in hands-on techniques is relaxing and therefore helpful to some people.

Are there any possible problems or complications?
Polarity therapy, when done by a trained professional, is considered safe for relaxation purposes.

Relying on this treatment alone and delaying or avoiding conventional medical care for cancer may have serious health consequences.

Improperly applied techniques may cause injury. People with cancer and chronic conditions such as arthritis and heart disease should talk to their doctors before having any type of treatment that involves manipulation of joints and muscles.

FORGIVE AND FORGET

Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me, up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. (Matthew 18:21-22)
Raised a Baptist, I grew up familiar with that verse and I understood the concept of loving the sinner and not the sin. But, for years I struggled with the whole ‘forgive and forget’ concept. To me, it just seemed … foolish.
The way I rationalized it, to forgive was one thing but to forget was a dangerous proposition. Didn’t forgetting mean that I was opening myself up to the same mistreatment again? Didn’t forgiving and forgetting mean that I was leaving myself open to be taken advantage of?
I would immediately think of the loving wife (or husband) who repeatedly forgives the unfaithful spouse only to have them continue to stray. Or the person who forgives their abuser only to have the abuser continue the abuse. Forgiving in those circumstances seemed hard enough. But forgetting didn’t seem possible or desirable to me.
Forgive …
I love quotes. And one of the best quotes I found about forgiveness says, “Not forgiving someone is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.” I get that. Forgiveness is a selfless and selfish act. You are forgiving the other person’s actions but in the process, you are releasing the negative hold that those actions and that person had over you.
Forgiving doesn’t mean that you are condoning the action. Forgiving means that you are letting go of the hurt and the pain. It’s easier to forgive if you can understand the person’s reason for doing what they did but even if you never understand, you can still forgive.
I had a friend who betrayed me. Without getting into unnecessary details, she did something very hurtful and hateful. Her actions pierced me to my soul. I don’t understand why she did what she did. I may never understand; but, I had to let it go. I knew I’d successfully forgiven her when I realized that I no longer felt that tension in my gut when I thought about her or the incidence
Forget …
I used to think forgetting was like washing the chalk off a blackboard. If you wipe that board with soap and water, it looks brand new, like nothing had ever been written. To me, that was the dangerous part. If the slate were scrubbed clean, if I truly did forget, then I would be opening myself up to the same actions all over again.
Then, I realized, forgetting wasn’t necessarily scrubbing the slate completely clean. Forgetting meant not dwelling on the incident or bringing it up over and over again. If you truly want to rebuild a relationship with a person who has broken your trust then you can’t keep bringing up the negative incident. You have to lose the urge to relive it and to punish the other person with it.
I forgave my friend. And I ‘forgot’. Now, when I see her or think about her, I focus on the good times we’ve shared or her sense of humor which I love. Her name has stopped being synonymous with betrayal to me.
But Don’t Be a Fool About It!
Forgiving and forgetting does not mean giving up your personal power or allowing yourself to be used as a doormat. To use the chalkboard analogy, if you use an eraser to wipe the board, you won’t wipe it completely clean. There will be a faint trace of the words and images that were there before. When it comes to forgiving and forgetting, that faint trace can serve as a silent reminder.
You have forgiven and forgotten, but the old signs are coming up again. He’s staying out late. He’s being secretive on the phone. He’s started picking fights so he can storm out of the house. Is he having another affair? Forgetting doesn’t mean ignoring the signs and behaviours that are staring you in the face – that would be foolish.
Be forgiving but be realistic.

LIFE AND WELLNESS COACHING

-  Is your life stuck in a rut?
-  Are you disappointed by your lagging career?
-  Do you feel like you're not living up to your fullest potential?
-  Are you feeling as if something is missing in your life?
-  Do you feel as if you are not good enough?
-  Do you feel as if you do not belong here?
-  Are you always frustrated?
-  Feeling suicidal?
-  Need to overcome bad habits?

Then maybe what you need is a Coach. Just like the Coaches who push athletes to achieve greatness in sports, Life and Wellness Coaches push their clients to achieve success in their career, relationships or lifestyle.

Unlike sports coaches, life and wellness coaches don't focus on changing specific behaviours, like correcting a bad swing in baseball. Instead, they develop their clients' overall strengths and abilities, according to the International Coach Federation. That's the governing organization for the coaching profession.

What Is a Life Coach?

Just about everyone has a vision of his or her ideal life. Maybe you've always dreamed of becoming a successful writer, musician, or corporate executive. Yet your vision hasn't quite made the leap from your mind to reality.
That's where a life coach steps in. Life coaches provide the incentive and direction their clients need to improve their careers, relationships, and lives.

They help clients to:
  • Hone in on their skills and ambitions.
  • Refocus their life's goals.
  • Overcome obstacles that stand in the way of achieving goals.

What Is a Wellness Coach?
Wellness coaches give their clients the motivation and tools they need to achieve their physical and emotional health goals.
Wellness coaches can show you steps to take and give you encouragement to reach goals such as:

  • Lose a few pounds
  • Eat better
  • Quit smoking / Drinking
  • De-stress
  • Get a Balance in Body-Mind-Spirit
  • Healing
Unlike a nutritionist or physical therapist, who make specific diet and exercise recommendations, a wellness coach will help you make better general choices that fit within your lifestyle.

Why Would I Need a Personal Life Coach or Wellness Coach?

There are a variety of reasons that people turn to life or wellness coaches for help. For instance, you might consider looking for a coach if you:

  • Need some guidance on moving forward in your career / Life
  • Want to learn how to best take advantage of strengths and talents
  • Don't know what to do about a major life decision, such as a move or promotion
  • Don't have an acceptable work-life balance
  • Are overstressed
  • Aren't as healthy as you'd like to be
  • Always Negative
  • Too Dependant
  • Want to get rid of  "bad coping mechanisms"
  • Need to break free
  • Missing Harmony
  • Need a Balance in Body-Mind-Spirit

MATTER AND ENERGY

The two basic ideas in physics are matter and energy. In the past, physicists believed that matter and energy were "two separate ideas". Today, physicists have shown that "matter can be changed into energy and energy into matter".
We can explain this transformation by saying: "when a body releases energy it loses part of it's mass, when a body absorbs energy, it gains mass".
Other terms associated with matter and energy are inertia and friction.

MATTER
What do you think that matter is?
Matter is "anything that takes up space and has mass". People, animals, houses, snow, leaves, oil, water are examples of matter.
When we say that matter takes space, we mean "two things can not be in the same place at the same time". If you are standing in one particular spot, nobody else can stand there, you have to move so another person can stand there.
Mass "is the amount of matter in an object". Small and light objects have less mass and they are easier to move. Big and heavy objects have more mass and they are more difficult to move. It takes less effort to move an empty box than a box full of books.

To find out about matter we use our senses. We feel matter with our skin. We smell matter with our nose. We hear matter with our ears. We taste matter with our mouth and we see matter with our eyes. A piece of ice feels cold and the fur of a cat feels soft to our touch. When our moms bake cookies we can smell them all over the house. If your sister drops a book, you can hear the noise when the book hits the floor. A piece of candy can taste very sweet or maybe very sour when we put it in our mouths. We use our eyes to determine if something is big or small, heavy or light, short or tall.

There are three states of matter: solid, liquid and gas. Solid matter has its own "shape and volume", like an apple or a boat. Liquid matter "takes the shape of its container", therefore you can change its shape without changing its amount. For example, you have a measuring cup filled with 8 oz of water and you decide to pour this water in a thin long vase, the 8 oz of water remain the same, but now its shape has changed to long and thin. Gas matter "has no shape". It just spreads out in its container. An empty glass is full of air.
Matter can change states, that means it can go from being solid to liquid, from liquid to gas, etc. If you leave a piece of ice on top of the counter, it will soon start to melt into water. If you leave a pot of boiling water on the stove, eventually the water will evaporate.

Matter "is made up of elements". It can be "a combination of different elements or it can be only one". The smallest possible part of an element is called an atom. Atoms of elements can be combined to make molecules. One molecule of water is made of 2 atoms of hydrogen and 1 atom of oxygen (H2O).
Matter can be mixed. When you mix two or more kinds of matter together you get a mixture. Sometimes the matter does not change "it just gets all mixed up". Like if you mix chocolate powder with milk. You get a delicious glass of chocolate milk.
Matter can change. If you have a piece of square paper and you decide to cut it in an oval shape, a physical change has just happened. If you decide to burn the paper, the paper became ash. This change is a chemical change.

ENERGY

Energy is "the ability to do work".
Energy is everywhere. Planes can fly because they are powered by gasoline, "a type of stored energy". We can watch television and play CDs because of the energy that the electricity produces. We can run, play and study because our bodies convert the food that we eat into energy.
In our planet Earth, the Sun is the major source of energy. We need the heat of the sun to grow plants, which provide the food that we eat. The Sun also evaporates the water that falls as rain to water the plants.
There are two kinds of energy: Potential Energy and Kinetic Energy. A baseball lying on the ground has potential energy, once somebody throws it the baseball's energy changes into kinetic.

Energy is always changing back and forth from potential to kinetic. This change is called "Transformation of Energy". Energy "can only be changed into another state of energy. It can not be created or destroyed".
Energy is measured in different ways. The most common are BTU (British Thermal Unit) and Joules (1000 Joules = 1 BTU).

FRICTION
When we feel cold, we like to rub our hands together, the faster that we rub them, the warmer that they get. This action is called friction. In physics, "friction is a force that opposes the motion of an object when the object is in contact with another object or surface".
There is no such thing as a totally smooth surface. Even if they look smooth to the naked eyes, if we look at them through the microscope we will see that they have ridges and grooves. Friction occurs when the "ridges or grooves of two different surfaces contact each other as they slide past each other".

There are different kinds of friction:

Static Friction:
"the force that keeps an object that is not moving in its place". A vase on top of a table is an example of static friction.

Sliding Friction:
"the force that occurs when two objects slide against each other". An example of sliding friction is striking a match against a rough surface.

Rolling Friction:
"slows down the motion of an object rolling on a surface". Rolling friction slows down the motion of a tire rolling along the pavement.

Fluid Friction: "the force that slows down an object when it travels through a fluid". A fish swimming in the water is an example of fluid friction.

INERTIA

If you are riding in a van full of objects, and your dad pushes the brakes really hard, the van will stop and all the objects in the van will move forward, and so will you and your dad.

This action is called Inertia. "Inertia is a property of matter".
Isaac Newton, a 17th century scientist, described this property in his first law of motion. He said that "an object at rest has the tendency to stay at rest and an object in motion has the tendency to stay in motion with the same speed and direction, until an outside force acts on it". In few words, "an object keeps doing what it is doing until you or something else stops it or changes the direction".
Inertia is also "directly related to the mass of an object". A bigger object has more inertia than a smaller object. For example, if your dad's van was full of boxes, the smaller ones will be the ones that moved the most when he pushed the brakes.

UNITY CONSIOUSNESS

There is only one reality, but there are many ways of interpreting that reality. For thousands of years we have been living in what is called "polarity consciousness," viewing and interpreting our reality from this perspective. All the familiar opposites of black/white, inside/outside, good/evil, them/us, war/peace, right/wrong, God/devil etc., are but symptoms of this way of looking at things. We have great fun labelling, categorizing, and judging all those things we see out there through the veil of our polarity paradigm.
We hear "New Age" gurus use terms like "The Source of All That Is" as one of the current politically correct terms for God. Still we seem to miss the basic point of there being one reality, one Source for All That Is. How many ways can it be said? Everything comes from God (by whatever name). Is there anything that does not come from God? Is there any small chunk of matter or portion of space that is not permeated with the essence of Universal Life Force Energy? NO.

Why then do we spend 90% of our God given energy judging every person, place, thing, and event we run across as good, bad, or indifferent, to our well-being?       Why, if we have God and all the power of God within us, do we point a finger at someone who appears on the outside as being the cause of our misfortune? How can we even pretend to have "misfortune" in a Universe oozing with God unless we feel that He/She screwed up pretty badly, allowing several mistakes to slip through that keep manifesting as this world of opposites. It's our comfortable little world of "Polarity Consciousness".

What is really involved in this "Shift of the Ages" that is now upon us. What is required of us in this unprecedented time of change? We are entering into a time that is referenced in many ancient texts, as "The End of Time", "The Latter Days", etc. We are being told that things will never be the same, there must be and will be a whole new way of interpreting the one reality.

What would it be like if we were really aware of the fact of the One Reality? Sacred Geometry workshops lead us around in profoundly beautiful circles (and other shapes) to convince our logical left-brain that there is one source for everything. What would happen if we were to start living this truth? What would happen if we accepted that every person we come in contact with was placed there just for us, and us for them? What if we began to realize that every event we experience is exactly what we need to open us to the inner wisdom of ourselves?

We might just relax. We might just open to the greater truths that seem to be laid before us at every step. We may start feeling at home and safe in the Universe. We may come to understand and get used to the perfection of our own being. We may even overcome those basic illusions we have cherished for so long: lack of self worth, lack of trust, and abandonment.
If we continue to run from half of existence for fear that the devil may be gaining on us, we may never know the difference between "I am trying" and "I AM".
